Hackers like the service model to

October 10th, 2007 ·

I am not often blow away by an information security article but I just got finished reading Hacker Economics 1: Malware as a Service by Scott Berinato and all I can say is wow! The topic is amazing and the writing is superb.

The article details the workings of a hacker group that is setup what is basically a rental service for compromised machines. The purchaser gets to use these machines for one month and keep all the information gained from them. These machines have sophisticated form grabbing malware that monitors the users machine and activates when it detects a user going to a bank or other site that houses sensitive data. The article goes into much greater detail of course. Truly fascinating stuff. Makes me want to get into forensics again, if I could somehow make it a 9-5 no travel job, errr yeah right.
